Is San Francisco Coming Back From The Abyss?

A couple of days ago, a friend and I did something I had wanted to do for years.

Take the commuter ferry from Vallejo to San Francisco. It’s a scenic 45 minute ride across the bay and under the San Rafael bridge to the ferry terminal at San Francisco’s Embarcadero.

Taking the ferry was also a practical matter, since parking is, if not at Manhattan-level expenses, pretty bad.

The last time I took my car there – 15 years ago – for an extended period was when my nephew, visiting from Minnesota, wanted to see Alcatraz.

Parking at a lot along Fisherman’s wharf was at the time $50 for about 4 hours.

But I will say that the NPS really set up the Alcatraz tours right – I had been there once before, with a guided tour. But this time you got a headphone and walked around at your own pace – hearing from former inmates and guards at various stops telling you what it was like.

Preaching the benefits of capitalism

In todays WSJ, Peggy Noonan had a great piece on a “non idiot” billionaire: Ken Langone, founder of Home Depot.

“An occasional preoccupation in this space is that young people have no particular loyalty to or affection for free-market capitalism, the economic system that made America a great thing in history and a magnet for the world. There are two reasons. One is that in their short lives they’ve witnessed and experienced only capitalism’s scandals—the 2008 crash, inequality. The other is that they’ve never heard capitalism defended—not in K through college, not in our entertainment culture. When you don’t especially admire something you feel no inclination to protect it, which will have serious political implications down the road.

Tip of the Hat to Buck Pennington

On our return to Casa De Sharon y Glenn, we stopped by the Vineyard on MCB Camp Pendleton. Among other things, I procured a couple of See Gars.
The Guinness was purchased shortly after leaving the gathering at Shakespeare’s.
The Missus said to maintain the same thing.
Buck Pennington gave me the idea to have a cigar, so I did.

Tonight I enjoyed both on the Verandah at Casa de Sharon y Glenn in California City.

Possible gathering of The Lexicans

Kanani Fong, proprietor of the most excellent blog, Kitchen Dispatch has a splendid idea.

A Meet.

Down in So Cal on the Beach  where we can park RVs or tent trailers and such.

We can chat, imbibe, commiserate and bond in person.

What say you?

I am going to personally brow beat Bill “Pinch” Paisley to make it, among others.

We need to do this.

It is on my bucket list.  Remember folks, I have already dodged the Big “C” once. Life is what it is…………………..

For our friend Lex.

I will bring Guinness and Jameson. Got to.

Double California Taxes 2012

California taxpayers are simply not taxed enough, so Governor Jerry Brown is asking Californians to vote for higher taxes this November, and why not?

We need to pay double taxes statewide immediately.  Let’s look into our hearts, reach deep inside our wallets, and start throwing huge wads of cash toward Sacramento.

The rest is at the link.

Be advised this is California Humour, such that that is.
