An Islamic cleric in Australia claims that some comments he’d recently been taken to task for have been misinterpreted: *
“The jihad I speak of is not one of violence,” he was quoted as saying. “It is one of personal struggle against things like mischievousness, temptation and personal harm.”
Well, perhaps the rest of might have read too much into his original comments:
“Teach (the children) this: There is nothing more beloved to me than wanting to die as a mujahid,” or holy warrior, the cleric said in the videos. “Put in their soft, tender hearts the zeal of jihad and a love of martyrdom.”
But we do so rarely hear of children dying in their struggles with mischievousness over here that we can perhaps be forgiven for improperly making deductive leaps. And it’s certainly possible I suppose for clerics making training videos for kids to get caught up in the heat of the moment and label Jews as “pigs,” I suppose, but we don’t get much of that either.
“Several” Muslim leaders in Oz are “distancing” themselves from the cleric’s remarks, which I suppose is something we should label “progress.” Others though are calling in “just another case of Islam bashing,” while admitting that “Muslim leaders ‘do have to be very responsible about how they conduct themselves in public.’”
Good idea: Keep all of that judenhasse and martyrdom talk behind closed doors.
There are times that I despair of humanity.
