My ritual denunciation

Posted by lex, on March 3, 2007

Let me state for the record that this little bit of pretended wittiness * by Ann Coulter was in exceptionally poor taste, and therefore worthy of a ritual denunciation:

“I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word “faggot,” so I — so kind of an impasse, can’t really talk about Edwards.”

Do you have to do it three times, or is just once sufficient to, you know: Complete the denunciation.

I never had much very good to say about Coulter. It’s OK though, she never had a kind word for me either.

Because this sort of thing? It doesn’t exactly “elevate the tone.” So much.

I think that’s probably OK with Coulter though – she’s got her schtick and she’ll ride the waves of this latest indignation all the way to the bank. Because while I don’t think she honestly believes Edwards is gay, neither do I think she’s ever taken an inconsidered step in her life. So: Good for her bank account, not so good for the movement.

With friends like these…

Cassie ** more or less points out that you never see Anny Coulter and Glenn Greenwald(s) in the same room. Which that might be a coincidence.

Over at Jeff Goldstein’s place meanwhile, Dan Collins ** wonders whether this wipes the slate clean – retroactively of course – for all those folks who called Coulter a “tranny.”

Tu quoques are vulgar no matter who’s using them though. This can pretty much stand on it its own.
