From the Book of Common Prayer, today’s Collect seems especially apt:
Almighty God, we beseech thee graciously to behold this thy
family, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was contented to be
betrayed, and given into the hands of sinners, and to suffer
death upon the cross; who now liveth and reigneth with thee
and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Update: Last week’s confessional solicited many heartfelt replies and expressions of since sympathy. I also received quite a volume of emails from friends far and near. I just wanted to express my gratitude for your kindnesses, recommendations and shared hardships. I am not yet ready to respond to each of the private emails I received, but I read each one, and deleted none of them. I may get around to replying in time. If I do not, please do not take it as a personal snub.
