USS Enterprise makes final foreign port Visit at Naples, Italy.
I vaguely remember when she was commissioned on the one TV station we got in Malta, MT fifty one years ago…….I was seven years old.

The Big E will always hold a special place in my heart. My oldest daughter (the Nuke) spent 6 weeks in the Med on board the Enterprise when she was a midshipman, they actually made her a Div-O due to a shortage of ensigns. She had a great cruise that year. And Big Time (son-in-law) was a member of CVW-1 for the last few years. Matter of fact, I was at the pier when Big E came back from her penultimate cruise last year. A special ship she is. Here’s hoping Big Navy pulls their heads out and names one of the next carriers “Enterprise” so that the tradition continues. Thanks for putting this up ORPO.
I was 11 when she was commissioned. Howe many ships in the Navy have been commissioned over 50 years?
I’ll bet – even the Missouri and Iowa are less…
She boldly went. Grand lady.
Agreed. Next new Nuke Carrier. Enterprise..
