OV-10 Bronco and Cessna O-2 Skymaster

First of all thank you all especially xbradtic for the chance to cease being a lurker and occasional reader/contributor.

Dripping my toe in the shallow end:

Plane pr0n is seems popular to add right now, my “welcome aboard” post is some “amateur” plane pr0n. The slide show features the OV-10 Bronco and Cessna O-2 Skymaster aircraft on display at the National Museum of the USAF. Taken during my visit there in January 2012.

You can learn more about the OV-10 Bronco at the museum here.

A few books on the Bronco here, here and here.

See the OV-10 Bronco Association  to learn even more about this great airplane.

There are quite a few on static throughout the world. A flyable display aircraft can be seen here.

and of course the obligatory Wikipedia page.

Speaking of that museum…you stole a future post of mine 🙂 Friend of mine sent me this sweet link to a virtual tour of the museum, all kinds of interactive widgets that lets you “walk and look” at the museum:

Yeah, the virtual tour helped me plan my visit 🙂 The 3 days I spent there just wasn’t enough..
On another note if you haven’t been obviously recommended. The airplanes are great to see but the real great things there are the retired volunteers who have great stories to tell.
Not included in the virtual tour is the guided “behind the scenes” restoration tour. I’ve got pics of that I’ll be sharing sometime.

Wow! Thank you so much for sharing those links. “Flying Black Ponies” is on my reading list just ordered from Amazon today.
THIS is why I loved visiting Lex’s blog. So much to learn…awesome.

I’m a fan of the Bronco from waaaaaay back.

And here’s a bit of thought on the role of the Bronco and it’s possible successors:

  3. Thanks for the pics. As a young Marine in A Co. 1st Recon I jumped from a Marine OV-10 over Camp Pendelton.
