I have always felt that not if but when the Big One comes – the people screaming the loudest for the military to come in and help will be these loons.
One thing that I’ve discovered over the last few years is that – as the Skipper pointed out – since the schools don’t teach the kind of history people need to know any more, a great many flag burners do so thinking that it’s against the law, and therefore they are ‘sticking it to the man’. In fact, of course, it isn’t – it’s protected free speech, whether one likes it or not, but a lot of these goons think otherwise. There is a hysterically funny story from a few years ago when the rock band Green Day was doing an interview and launched into a thoroughly incoherent rant against President Bush and then burned a flag, calling for him to come and arrest them. The interviewer pointed out that it was entirely legal to burn a flag…and the poor oppressed little rock stars suddenly shut up and ended the interview.
