Reblogged from Among The Joshua Trees:
This was in my Facebook News Feed yesterday.
Thought it was worth it. Shifty Powers. Soldier. Hero.
From Charles Yeager, Major General, USAF Retired.
And think of the media circus, and all the things that are said of Hollywood "celebrities" when they die. This hero died with barely anyone's notice. No Comment required"Shifty" By Chuck YeagerShifty volunteered for the airborne in WWII and served with Easy…
ORPO, you might want to check the provenance of items you get in your Facebook feed. SSG Powers passed away on 17 June 2009. The article in question was most certainly not written by Gen Yeager.
But SSG Darrel “Shifty” Powers was indeed a hero. One of the “Band of Brothers”.
We shouldn’t get too spun up over what Hollywood and the MSM do when a celebrity dies versus how they ignore it when a hero like SSG Powers passes. It’s what they do, they’re a$$hats.

Just a quick update, while the letter is apparently true (I remember seeing it after MJ past and some of you may recall that the Captain once posted the same on his blog: http://www.neptunuslex.com/2009/07/15/maybe-you-missed-it/ ) it was not general Yeager that wrote the piece. He probably doesn’t fly commercial anyway
There is more info here: http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/shiftypowers.asp to take away what you can.
