    I can remember – growing up in Los Angeles – getting a tour of the Midway in the mid 50s – ’56? ’57? My parents knew a Navy Officer who got us aboard. Thinking back, she must have been in Long Beach.

    Years later – the early 80s – I was living in San Diego and the Navy had a wonderful tradition – every weekend they would take a ship to the Broadway pier and invite the public.

    I would make it a Saturday ritual to see what was there – a Spruance Class destroyer seems to stand iut.

    Those days I suspect are long gone.
