Thinking about this – and thinking that the higher the rank, the more political they have to be, I would think that the higher the rank, the more “aware” one is of pissing off the wrong people with your views, whether they are correct views or not.
So I think it took some courage on Lex’s part to publicly voice his views while still in the Navy.
But then, I guess, he made Captain just before he retired, so he doesn’t seem to have made any enemies.
Lex’s descriptioin of being in the attack mode – so much more is demanded of those pilots now.

Then too I am amazed at those old WW2 pilots – coming in at – what – 250 kts – saving some ground pounders by aiming the guns at the enemy 100 – even 50 yards way.
How did they do that? Nothing smart about those guns – you aimed them by using the rudder, ailerons and elevator.
