Spending Sunday trolling the interwebs when I should be doing someting productiive and low and behold:
Spanish Air Force CL-415s kickin’ ass one pass at a time, putting out wildfires.
I enjoy seeing the intense physical activity it takes to fly a multiengine multicrew airplane in this environment.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has the 415′s predessor, the CL-215 in service:
Reminds me of the BEST opening sequences for an aviation related film.. EVER!
“Always.” LOLOL! One of my favs too. That;s a beautiful Catalina
I flew with the pilot of that “Cat” the same year that the Movie “Always”
was made. His name was Jim McGowan. He was possibly the best
“Stick and Rudder ” Pilot I have ever seen. He worked for Spielberg in
the Movie. He could fly every thing from B-26′s to B-29′s to PBY’s to
DC-whatevers. Amazing man.
“When Spielberg asked” -”How close are they when the disappear under the bow”? “I said: “Oh about 50 ft.” “Ok do it.”
He could take a DC6B and stay with a C-172 in the pattern…
Then land so smooth that he wouldn’t depress the struts…
