This is ugly, really ugly. Worth reading at least the first page. Beware.

It is ugly reading for sure. And it’s one of the many reasons I absolutely refuse to use the Cloud. I took a fair amount of teasing when I bought my latest iPhone because I spent extra money on extra storage on the phone, in my refusal to use the Cloud. We don’t use the Cloud at home either and after a near-disaster with a hacked password I no longer use the same password for different accounts and I don’t store my credit cards on online accounts either. I will manually type it in each and every time I order something. I have multiple back-ups and none of them will ever be on the Cloud or anything remostely like it.
Here’s a companion piece from Slate. It has some good advice in it.
I like to buy mp3 songs from Amazon. When they first started the cloud, their default setting was to have all your purchased songs “there” instead of on your computer.
Had a lot of email back and forth.
I think people like to manage their own data.
Disk drives are cheap – just spent $130 for a 1 TB drive.
Beyond that I **hate** giving my credit card on line – will avoid it if i can. There was one dept store where I bought something – Mervyns – was **in the store ** and apparently they save your cc number (??????) on their systrem. – well a few months later a hacker got in to their system.
Haven’t had any adverse effects yet but I suspect it isn’t if but when this stuff will hit us all – how much it hits depends on how much we leave – “out there” -
No Cloud,No Facebook.No Twitter.
Have to go tape up knuckles -been dragging them too much….
I could snark about Fan-Bois, but I won’t. This kinda stuff is too, too serious for platform wars. That, and I’ll prolly have to move to Win8 at some point in the future.
