I took a trip over the mountains to NAS Lemoore today. Got a new pair of boots for work(I get reimbursed btw), some swag and some pictures of Airplanes on Sticks.

These three are next to the Station Admin Building in close proximity to a really large grass area that is used for major functions such as changes of command and full dress inspections.

Orpo1, I take it you aren’t going to Wichita?

Don’t know why but I remember a lot of planes on sticks. In the early 60s, my family lived in Fresno, CA – just up the road from that metropolis Lex referred to (Lemoore) – and the ANG at Fresno was flying F86s. They had a P51D on a stick at the airport entrance.

I always “assumed” that as the price of Mustangs went up the plane went down at some point.

Then many years later I was driving through Colorado Springs – had to see the Air Force Academy – and it was September.

While the Academy had my interest it was all the planes on a stick – F4s, F105s, that held my interest.

Only that was apparently the 1st week of school – and a kindly Sgt said that they didn’t want anyone around in civilian clothes.

It was one of those instances where I realized that I could leave either in a dignified manner or an undignified manner ;-)

    • We do not know as of yet if we are staying here in the desert or going back to Wichita.
Still waiting on the answer from the hiring manager at McConnell AFB.
One of the rarest on a stick was the Grumman F11F at NAF El Centro!
