Reblogged from Among The Joshua Trees:
Sally Ride, the first American woman to travel in space, has died at 61
Sad news this day. So very sad, indeed.
Sally Ride had the Right Stuff as far as I am concerned.
I was not aware she had pancreatic cancer.
Still reaching for the stars.....................
She did have the right stuff.
I’d like to think among the stars all those with an aviation interest are at a giant table, doing some hanger flying.
I think you have it Bill.
Lex is there serving the Guinness and Jameson!
I thought she had more flights than just two.
Both were aboard Challenger.
Sally Ride accomplished much, both during her career as an astronaut and afterwards. It is a real shame that we lost her so early to pancreatic cancer.
I don’t know if she likes Guinness, but I’ll bet she and Lex are having a great conversation now.
I would like to be a fly on that wall, edwardolsen!
A nice remembrance of Ride as a grad student, in comments here:

Appreciate the link photoncourier.
One of America’s truest pioneers and champions. Like Neil Armstrong, so much of what Ms. Ride accomplished was post-spaceflight.
We have indeed seen a great one step up to the bar at that well-known heavenly pub. What a gal.
Ride, Sally! Ride!
Such great people. Such brief lives.
Another inspiration to us all. Lex got me looking at going back to the Airtanker business, I lost another friend to Pancreatic cancer last Feb.
he also got me thinking about what is life about and what you can really do in this life. He too like Lex lived it to the fullest extent possible.
Then there was my cowboy/indian Pop who always said:”living with yer
boots on will mean you will die in’em too..He did. Couldn’t honor his
preferred way of disposing of his remains though, State of Oregon doesn’t like folks being tied to the back of a paint horse and set free on the range for some reason…
Sally was uniquely American she will be missed…
