When I get home from work (on my dime) I’ll have to read this completely. But in general – a little common sense. Be Prepared, is the Boy Scout Motto.
One of the best books on the subject taught me that mental attitude – and the ability to stop for a moment and acess he situation – determines whetner you live or die many times.
Just today I am reading that 4 divers in Italy die in a cave because the inexperienced one(s) panicked and started kicking up silt –
A few years ago a hotdog for CNET went with his family up to the high Sierras – took a “short cut” and gets stuck in the snow. They all died if memory serves me.

I have a little more time now – I realized that Mongo’s focus in this post and the book are slightly different – but both deal with preparing for possible danger.
And it’s mental attitude – the book author quoted a SEAL training Petty Officer who said that “It’s usually the Rambo types who drop out first”.
As far as preparing for calamities and emergencies I think everyone should know how to shoot and have a firearm – extra food (means more beer and bread for me? ) –
I will send you a link from a good Internet friend – a Hollywood Screenwriter, who got caught with his family in the outbreak of the Rodney King riots – it is a good study on what can happen – how would you react?
