  1. Bill Brandt

I have a friend – native San Diegan who used to joke about this very subject. He had a 16′ sail boat and said in San Diego Bay – seeing an 80,000 ton Nimitz class cazrrier bearing down on him – that even when he had the right of way he wouldn’t press the issue.

  2. I love how Lex took opportunities to throw this kind of stuff out there and see what we all had to say. He gave the floor to all of us, all the time.
That said…not being a sailing sort of girl I would agree that the bigger boat has the right of way, even when they don’t. That just seems like common sense to me.

Bill Brandt, in your discussions with your friend, let me see if I understand your point. The “Rules of the Road” may be followed, hopefully. But, the “Laws of Physics” *SHALL* be followed, absolutely!

And as always, discretion is the better part of valor.

Lex had a great chapter on this in Rhythms. “In Extremis”

You got it Grumpy! Like being in an intersection with your VW – your light is green and a huge 18 wheeler is coming.

Do you stop or insist he see you and stop? ;-)

Somebody needs to teach the COLREGS to the supposed “Sea Shepherd Conservation Society” who are nothing more than environmental terrorists and pirates. their leader is a very sick and twisted man who’s thinking is right out of a Clancy novel. Specifically the evil leader in “Rainbow Six”, John Brightling.
