Heh. I like the definition of “Elderly” someone coined: “Anyone who is at least 10 years older than you”
Looks like Lex was staring at middle age for the first time. I am sure that he felt – as most of us – male and female – feel as we have moved to that category – we are 20 years olds trapped in a shell that is starting to give out!
I can tell by Lex’s writing – his attitudes towards authority (being both the dispenser and recipient) – that he was the kind of officer everyone hopes he will serve under – regardless of service.
They say when you put on O-4, they take out your brain. When you make O-5 they take out your brain. When one makes O-6, they take out his heart! Not true for Lex I’m sure we’d all agree.
To this very day, I’m not sure who was more surprised that I made Captain; myself, The Doctor or virtually anyone who’d known me at any point during the Wildly Preposterous Career. I remain convinced that the august members of the Selection Board were so aghast that I remained among the living and still uniformed that they tossed my name in as some sort of bizarre prank.

Too true. I just turned 49…and I don’t FEEL that old. It’s just that my body isn’t working as well as it used to….
