“Quick, Mr. Peabody, Into The Way-Back Machine!” – WWII Aircraft Pr0n

Dear reader, go fetch your favorite weekend beverage, preferably in this case a Guinness (For Strength!),  sit back down and visit this Flicker slide show of Royal Air Force and South African Air Force pictures from a time and from places long since altered and changed.  Kudos to those of you who recognize each and every aircraft pictured, for even Your Humble Servant was stumped by a couple, and we do pride ourselves in our life-long and oft-deemed obsessive knowledge of Things With Wings (and even rotors).  You’ll also see, a few times, some easily and at least a couple of not-so-easily recognizable faces.  Relax, enjoy, put on some music from the period, if you’re of a mind to…

Great good stuff. I ID’ed most of the aircraft with the exception of ALL the observation/liaison types. And that jet amphibian.

  4. Urk. I keep getting the Stirling mixed up with the Halifax.

Did ID the Lysander, though. :)

    Awesome pix. Thanks.

  6. Cool Stuff!
Some real classics in that essay!

  7. I have to admit that I didn’t know a good many of them. The Brits had a lot of obscure types I never saw, or even came across in books.
